Transformed Freedom Initiative (TFI) is a trans-refugee-led community organisation based in Kenya, built on courage, solidarity, and hope. We serve transgender refugees and asylum seekers who have fled persecution and displacement in search of safety. We are more than a shelter; we are a collective of individuals who have turned struggle into strength and exclusion into empowerment. At TFI, we stand as a safe anchor for our community as they navigate displacement, discrimination, and the added vulnerability of seeking asylum far from home. Our work is rooted in lived experience; many of our own members are refugees and asylum seekers who understand firsthand the risks of statelessness, gender-based violence, and exclusion. Every program we design reflects the realities of those we serve. We are a movement that uplifts voices, nurtures resilience, and creates pathways for our community to thrive with dignity and visibility.
